- Diana Ross said she stayed away from Michael Jackson's memorial service because she was "trying to find closure." But one insider claims it was also because she and Michael's mother, Katherine, don't get along. "Katherine resents that Diana became a kind of surrogate mother to Michael," claims a source. "And she's not thrilled that Michael named Diana as the backup guardian of his children." A Jackson rep declined to comment, but Ross' spokesman called the theory "ridiculous. Ms. Ross has deep love for the Jackson family."George Clooney has pledged to shoot more scenes for his movie "A Very Private Gentleman" (about an assassin in Italy on his final hit) in the earthquake-ravaged city of Abruzzo. The humanitarian actor, who has a home in Italy, was invited to survey the damage on a side trip from Rome when he attended the G-8 summit. "He wants to funnel some movie money into Abruzzo," to help the 40,000 people made homeless, a Clooney pal confides.










'Scandalous' Biographer Sparks Michael Jackson RumorsIan Halperin, the author of an unauthorized biography on Michael Jackson, has claimed that the King of Pop is suffering from Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency (A1AD), a genetic disorder that harms the liver and lungs. "He needs a lung transplant," Halperin told The Sun, "But he may be too weak to go through with it." The tabloid report added that Jackson is 95-percent blind in his left eye and battling both emphysema and gastrointestinal bleeding. While all of this could turn out to be true (aside from being seen in a wheelchair earlier this year, Jackson's brother, Jermaine, told the paper that "[Michael's] not doing so well right now"), Rolling Stone has uncovered some red flags in Halperin's track record.
